Wuthering Waves Guide

A complete walkthrough from your first pull to endgame optimization. Learn how gacha works, how to farm echoes efficiently, how to build teams, and how to spend every Waveplate wisely.

💎 Gacha & Pity System

Wuthering Waves uses a pity-based gacha similar to Genshin Impact. Here's exactly how it works:

💡 Pro tip: As a new player, prioritize characters over weapons. A new character unlocks team variety and playstyles. Signature weapons are 15-25% stronger than free alternatives — meaningful, but not worth skipping a character for. Use the Tier List → to decide which banner to pull on.

🔮 Echo System Explained

Echoes are Wuthering Waves' equivalent of artifacts or relics — equipable monster skills that provide stats and set bonuses. Understanding this system is the single biggest power spike you'll get outside of pulling characters.

⚡ Substats matter more than main stats: A Cost 4 Echo with CRIT Rate main stat and CRIT DMG + ATK% substats will outperform one with perfect main stat but flat DEF and HP substats. Farm until you hit at least one CRIT substat on every echo piece before moving on. Use our Echo database → to find the right set for your character.

⚔️ Combat Fundamentals

Wuthering Waves combat is fast and skill-based. Unlike turn-based gachas, your mechanical skill directly impacts your damage output. Here are the mechanics that matter most:

👥 Team Building Basics

A strong Wuthering Waves team follows a simple formula: 1 Main DPS + 1 Sub-DPS + 1 Support/Healer. The synergy comes from element matching, Outro buff alignment, and rotation speed.

🔰 Beginner team template: Pick a Main DPS from the Tier List →, add Verina or Shorekeeper as your healer, and fill the third slot with a Sub-DPS who shares an element or buffs your DPS's damage type. This template works for 90% of content.

📅 Daily Routine & Waveplate Spending

Waveplates (resin/stamina) cap at 240 and regenerate at a rate of 1 per 6 minutes. Never let them cap — log in at least twice a day to spend them. Here's the optimal spending priority:

⏰ Time-saving tip: You can condense Waveplates into Crystal Solvents from the inventory menu. This lets you store up to 480 extra Waveplates for days when you have time to play. Always condense before logging off if you're near the cap.

🔧 Weapon Progression

Weapons are straightforward but high-impact. The right weapon for your character can be a 15-25% damage increase over the wrong one.

📈 Ascension & Character Leveling

Leveling a character from 1 to 90 takes approximately 2-3 weeks of optimized Waveplate spending. Here's the roadmap:

📋 Pre-farming is the meta: Once a new character is announced, use our character database → to look up their element, weapon type, and recommended echo set. Farm the boss materials, element cores, and echo set before their banner drops. Then you can level them to 90 on day one.

Quick Answers

Should I pull for weapons or characters?
Characters > weapons, always. A new character unlocks team variety, playstyles, and synergy options. Signature weapons are 15-25% DPS gains — meaningful but replaceable. Free and crafted weapons are good enough for all content including Tower of Adversity.

Is the Battle Pass worth buying?
Yes if you're a new player — the raw EXP mats, shell credits, and BP weapon alone justify the $10. For veterans, it's about 9 extra limited pulls for $10, which is still better pull-per-dollar than direct top-ups.

How many free pulls do I get per patch?
Approximately 110 pulls per version as F2P from dailies, events, Tower of Adversity, exploration, and redemption codes. With Lunite Subscription + Battle Pass, roughly 138-152 pulls per patch.

What's the best way to spend real money?
Priority order: Lunite Subscription ($5/mo) > Weekly Subscription ($10, once per patch) > Battle Pass ($10) > Top-up bundles (buy each tier's first-purchase bonus before repeating any tier). Everything else is significantly less efficient.

How long to build a character from scratch?
~2 weeks to Lv.80 with Lv.6+ Forte skills and a passable echo set. Lv.90 + max Forte + optimized echo substats takes 3-5 weeks. Pre-farm ascension materials before pulling to level them day one.

What can Lunites be used for in WuWa?
Lunites are the premium currency purchased with real money. They can be converted 1:1 to Astrite for pulling on banners, used to buy bundles in the in-game Shop (such as the Lunite Subscription refreshing pack), or spent on skin/cosmetic purchases. Most players convert everything to Astrite unless there's a specific paid bundle they want.

Is Wuthering Waves multiplayer?
Yes — but selectively. You can matchmake for weekly bosses and certain combat events with up to 2 other players (3-player co-op). There is no persistent open-world co-op; you cannot explore the overworld together. Multiplayer is instance-based: you matchmake → fight → disband. A permanent co-op mode (raids) was added in version 2.3.

Is Wuthering Waves on PS5?
Yes — Wuthering Waves launched on PlayStation 5 globally in January 2025 alongside version 2.0. It supports cross-progression: link your Kuro Games account to play the same account across PC, mobile, and PS5.

Is Wuthering Waves on Xbox?
Not yet as of July 2026. Kuro Games has stated they are working on an Xbox Series X|S port, but no official release date has been announced. When it launches, it is expected to support cross-progression like the PS5 version. Check back here or the News page → for platform announcements.
